Governance structure

The uniqueness of the IOR is also reflected in its governance structure, as defined by its Statutes, which envisages the presence of the Prelate in addition to the bodies responsible for oversight, strategic guidance and operational management.

The governing bodies have the following responsibilities:

  • The Commission of Cardinals oversees the fidelity of the Institute to the statutory provisions in the manner laid down in the Statutes and decides on the allocation of profits, subject to the Institute’s capital requirements

  • The Prelate in situ helps administrators and employees govern and operate according to the founding principles of Catholic ethics and consistently with the mission of the Institute

  • The Board of Superintendence is responsible for defining and approving the strategic guidelines and policies of the Institute as well as supervising compliance with them

  • The Director General directs and controls all activities concerning the administration, management and organization of the Institute, as well as the recruitment and management of personnel
