Board of Superintendence
The Board of Superintendence performs the duties of a strategic and political steering body. It is composed of seven members, appointed by the Commission of Cardinals from among persons of acknowledged economic and financial experience and proven reliability, who meet the requirements of competence and integrity expressly required by the Statutes and applicable regulations. They hold office for five years and may be confirmed once. All Board members are independent and non-executive. In order to carry out its activities, the Board avails itself of Board committees with consultative and advisory functions (Article 17, paragraph 2 of the Statutes).

Vice President
Javier Marín Romano is Vice President of the Board of Superintendence.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Frontier Economics, DIB and the Catholic University of Valencia.
A banker with over 30 years’ experience in global financial markets, he is the founder and CEO of Singular Bank, one of Spain’s leading independent private banks.
He previously spent 24 years at Banco Santander, where he held a number of senior positions, including Chief Executive Officer and Head of Private Banking, Asset Management and Insurance.
He has been a member of several Financial Industry committees, including the European Banking Association and the European Financial Services Association.
He holds a law degree, a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in taxation from the Pontifical University of Comillas, as well as a diploma in EU law from the Université Internationale du Luxembourg and in banking management from the Institut d’Etudes Bancaires.

Javier Marín Romano is Vice President of the Board of Superintendence.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Frontier Economics, DIB and the Catholic University of Valencia.

Bernard Brenninkmeijer is a member of the Board of Superintendence.
He is currently Chairman of the Argidius Foundation and the Porticus North America Foundation, as well as a member of the Board of FADICA (Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities), the President’s Circle, the For Good Committee and the Board of Trustees of the University of Notre Dame in London.
Throughout his career, he has been a speaker at numerous conferences on ESG and faith-consistent investing, and was an advisor to the authors of Mensuram Bonam, the Catholic investment guideline published by the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
Over the past 30 years, he has held increasingly important management and leadership roles within the company and the Brenninkmeijer family’s philanthropic network.
As Chief Investment Officer of the family’s philanthropic funds, he led the diversification of their portfolio holdings and developed and implemented their responsible investment policy.
Previously, he was Managing Director of Bregal Investments, where he was responsible for both private equity and direct investments.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s degree in business administration from INSEAD.

She is also a Trustee of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church and serves as Co-Chair of the National Leadership Roundtable on Church Management. She is also a member of the Georgetown University Board of Regents.
With a distinguished career in the financial and institutional sectors, she has been a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank from 2019 to 2024, where she had responsibilities for strategy, quality and effectiveness of supervision, internal governance and risk management, with a focus on digital resilience.
Prior to the ECB, from 2003 to 2019, she was with Promontory Financial Group where she served in various roles including as Global Head of Strategy, Chair and CEO of Promontory Europe and Middle East and Partner-in-charge of the New York Office.
From 1997 to 2003, she held the position of Superintendent of Banks and Chairman of the Banking Board for the New York State Banking Department, where she led the organization’s offices in New York, London, and Tokyo and served as the First Deputy Superintendent of Banks from 1995 to 1997.
In 1985, she began her professional career at Goldman Sachs & Co., where she has held the position of Vice President from 1991 to 1995.
She graduated from Boston University after completing programs in the European Common Market and United States Public Affairs at the Institute of European Studies in Freiburg and at Georgetown University respectively.

Georg Freiherr von Boeselager is a member of the Board of Superintendence.
He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Merck Finck, which he has chaired since its inception, and an advisor to the VEDRA Group.
He joined Merck Finck & Co Privatbankiers in 2004 and became a partner and member of the Board of Directors in 2005, a position he held until 2016.
He was a founding partner of Salm-Salm & Boeselager and later managing director of Bethmann Vermögensbetreuungs GmbH, companies specialising in asset management for high net worth institutional and private clients. He was also Vice President of several German, American and Canadian companies of the Metzler Group, specialising in securities and real estate.
Over the years, he has been involved in the management of non-profit organisations, serving as Financial Director of the Malteser Hilfsdienst charity and as a member of the Board of the Limburg Diocese.
After obtaining his broker’s licence under NASD and SEC rules, he became a member of the PBW stock exchange.
After obtaining a Master’s degree in Economics, he started his career at Bankhaus B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. in Frankfurt.

With more than 30 years of experience as a legal advisor in various corporate and banking transactions of a strategic nature, she has held positions of increasing importance within the Bank of the Philippine Islands. From 2018 to 2022, she served as President and CEO of BPI Asset Management & Trust Corporation – the Philippines’ leading independent trust company wholly owned by the Bank – where she was previously Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. She also held senior management positions in BPI Capital Corporation from 2013 to 2017.
Earlier in her career, from 2009 to 2013, she was Co-Managing Director of Ayala Group Legal, the legal department of holding company Ayala Corporation and its subsidiaries, where she gained various professional experiences.
She holds degrees in Economics and Law from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
